Drug sweep nets 14 arrests

Fourteen people were arrested early Wednesday in a multi-agency drug sweep that followed a five-month undercover operation by the Winder Police Department’s narcotics unit. Pit bulls seized, owners arrested

A Barrow County Animal Control officer removed three pit bulls from a Bethlehem neighborhood after two of the dogs attacked a family pet being walked by a neighbor’s daughter. Unemployment rate holds steady for Barrow County

Barrow County’s unemployment rate of 11.2 percent held steady in July, the same as it was in June. But the rate was still far above last year’s rate of 6.5 percent for July. According to state numbers, some 3,801 people in Barrow County were unemployed in July.

Despite the fact that the Barrow County government is facing a new fiscal year Oct. 1, the board of commissioners failed Tuesday night to resolve a looming $2.2 million deficit. Although there were some new ideas on how to work toward that deficit, no action was taken by the BOC Tuesday. Commissioner Steve Worley presented a list of suggestions ... [Full Story »]
