The Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce signaled its intentions Friday of taking a lead role in promoting extension of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) in a vote later this year. Water Authority seeks $1 million grant to fight terrorism

Schools closed for snow storm

All three school systems in Jackson County closed Friday in anticipation of a snow storm hitting around midday. The forecast calls for snow from around 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday bringing 1"-3" of snow to the area. The lows Friday night are expected t be in the mid-20s and snow that does stick is expected to stay around into Saturday.

A Jefferson chiropractor was arrested Thursday morning on charges of child molestation and sexual battery against a 15-year-old male patient.
