Three people who told Braselton police that they didn’t know that their money was counterfeit later told another law enforcement officer that they knew that the cash was fake. County rec. dept. employee arrested on theft charges

An employee with the county recreation department has been arrested in connection with the theft of county property. Jimmy Ray Hollis, 60, 1099 Old State Road, Pendergrass, was charged with theft by conversion. Unemployment moves back up

The unemployment rate in Jackson and Barrow counties jumped up in December after several months of being flat. The unemployment rate in Barrow County went up to 10.8 percent from 10.5 percent in November. In Jackson County the rate hit 10.7 percent in December, up from 10.6 percent in November.
