A dispute about who “cut in line” in a carpool lane at a Hoschton daycare center led one man to pull a gun on another man, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. A Winder man was struck repeatedly after refusing to go to the store and buy cigarettes for his girlfriend. The man said he was just trying to soak his feet for relief from a diabetic condition when Darenda Gay Johnson, 44, of 196 Graham Street in Winder, demanded he go to the store and buy her some cigarettes. Barrow foreclosures climb

Foreclosures in Barrow County continue to run high as some 243 are scheduled for the April sale date. That is the third highest number for any month for 2009 and 2010. The record monthly high was 257 in January 2010. For 2010 through April, 873 foreclosure actions have been taken in Barrow County. The county recorded 2,172 foreclosures in 2009. ... [Full Story »]

Winder teen killed in fall

A Winder teen is dead after a fall from a Florida hotel balcony. According to police, Brandon Ward Kohler, 19, fell from the fifth floor of the Holiday Terrace Motel on Wednesday night just before 8:30 p.m. The Winder Barrow High School graduate was pronounced dead at the scene.
