Tiger Netters Fall To Athens Christian

Following a week of rain, Commerce’s netters faced Athens Christian last Tuesday. The girls were swept 5-0 by Athens Christan while the boys’ double team of Jessie Savage and Garrett Wilson posted the only win in a 4-1 loss. Colbert VFD lowers ISO rating

The Colbert Volunteer Fire Department has lowered its Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating, which will also lower insurance premiums for homeowners in the Colbert VFD district. Colbert’s ISO rating dropped from a 6/9 to a 5/8B rating. The first number (5) is for homes within five road miles of the station and within 1,000 feet of a hydrant. ... [Full Story »] 

Friday fires keep firefighters busy

Firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services were called to three separate fires on March 19. The first, reported just after 6:30 a.m. Friday morning, was a vehicle and structure fire in the 500 block of Tucker Road. A Winder man is facing multiple charges after a March 12 incident at a Ledbetter Road residence. Deputies were called to the home after Byron Joe Ledbetter, 37, injected himself with an unidentified drug. Two men were arrested on drug charges by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigators on Thursday, March 18. Arrested were: Thomas Elroy Ramsey, 48, 1343 Yarbrough-Ridgeway Road, Maysville, and James Douglas Walker, 51, 5429 Pleasant Hill Lane, Braselton. $4,168 in water bill fees reduced

Six Banks Countians had their water bills reduced even though the issue never was voted on or brought before the full five-member board of commission. Cochran named to the planning commission

Melinda Cochran was appointed to the Banks County Planning Commission in a unanimous vote at Tuesday’s Banks County Board of Commissioners meeting.
