Summer camp registration underway

Barrow County Parks and Recreation is currently holding registration for its summer day camp. The camp is an eight week camp that begins June 1 and ends July 30. The camp includes two pool days and one field trip each week. Space is limited to 40 campers. Registration will end on May 28. For more information, call 770-307-3024.

Winder hikes water, sewer rates

The Winder City Council on Tuesday adopted higher water and sewer service rates for FY2011. The base monthly charge for residential and commercial customers will rise 7 percent, and volume usage rates will rise 15 percent. Winder Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect from an April 27 robbery at the Best Western on West Athens Street. An Auburn woman called police after discovering that someone had released a cat from a trap in her yard. The woman said she had been having difficulty with stray cats getting into her garden. Barrow County firefighters will be collecting donations May 13-15 during the 21st annual “Give Burns the Boot” drive.
