Public safety day to be held July 17

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office will host a Public Safety Day at the Barrow Crossing Shopping Center on Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives from local and state law enforcement agencies will be on hand to answer questions and give demonstrations. Burglary suspect tasered, falls on head

A burglar fell on his head, but managed to escape apprehension after being tasered while on top of a six foot high fence. A Barrow County Sheriff’s deputy was called to assist Statham Police with a burglary in progress at the Pat's BP. Two suspects gained access to the business through the roof of the building. Poll shows overwhelming support for immigration law

A recent BarrowJournal.com poll asked respondents if they would like to see Georgia pass an immigration law similar to the one passed by Arizona. An overwhelming majority, 88 percent, indicated their support for legislation similar to that enacted by Arizona. Only ten percent of poll respondents opposed the legislation. An 82-year-old woman escaped injury when her Winder home was firebombed earlier this week.
