First quarter sales tax collections up

Local option sales tax revenue for the first three months of this year was up 5.6 percent over the same period one year ago. The latest check the county received, which was for sales made in March, was $424,115. Jefferson drug dog dies

The Jefferson Police Department has announced the death of one of its dogs, Ayok, who was found dead in his kennel last Thursday at 9 p.m. The cause of death is not known yet but an autopsy was performed by the University of Georgia Vet School. Early voting to begin Monday

Early voting for the July 20 election will begin Monday and be held through July 9. Voters may cast a ballot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the Administration Building in Jefferson.
