Woman hoards soccer balls to thwart ‘Mexicans’

A Winder woman called police to report that a “Mexican” had climbed her fence to retrieve a soccer ball and had caused damage to the fence. The investigating officer noticed the chain link fence was not broken, but had been bent away from the post. Barrow students improve on ACT but still lag state average

Students at both Barrow County High Schools improved on the ACT test last year, but still lagged the overall state averages. Winder Barrow High School students had a composite score on the ACT of 19.3 in the 2009-2010 school year, up from 19.2 the year before. The town of Carl is considering the addition of a threeway stop sign prior to the opening of what may become one of Barrow County’s biggest industrial employers. A deputy was called to an Atlanta Highway address in response to a report of two people passed out in front of an apartment complex. Last weekend’s torrential downpours not only flooded city streets and backed up sewage, but they also brought back the tabled proposal for a new storm water tax in Winder. Prison escapee captured by Winder Police officers

A man who escaped from the Phillips Transitional Center did not have long to enjoy his freedom before being captured by Winder Police.
