A Colbert man was sentenced recently in Madison County Superior Court to three years of confinement for statutory rape. Cory Welch, 21, 945 Strickland Circle, Colbert, was also sentenced to seven years probation and fined $850. A charge of failure to appear was dismissed. Cruelty to animals was reported on Hanley Road recently when a man found a dead kitten in his mailbox. According to the report, the kitten had been left sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.
