Net digest down 9.4%; schools down 10.3%

Barrow County’s net tax digest plunged this year, according to the recently released county numbers. For the general Barrow County government, the tax digest was $1.66 billion this year, down 9.4 percent from $1.83 billion last year. Nationwide, 16.6 million workers are employed in government jobs according to data released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau. Wanted man arrested after using brother’s identity

A man wanted for violating the terms of his probation picked up an additional charge after lying to police about his identity. A deputy with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office contacted Winder Police to advise that Michael Paul Dunn, 26, of 181 East Broad Street in Winder, was wanted for probation violation.
