Jackson County freshman runner J.T. Wood ran a 20:27 in his first varsity race Saturday to help the Panthers finish 14th out of 26 varsity teams at the Northeast Georgia Championships. Jefferson’s Kyle Kashuba recorded a sub-19 minute time Saturday in the Dragons’ opening meet, running an 18:44 to help his team finish eighth in the Northeast Georgia championships in Athens. Jefferson sophomore Cara Smith led the Lady Dragons at state last year and has picked up right where she left off. Smith ran a 22:10 Saturday at the Northeast Georgia Championships at Athens Christian, finishing 10th overall and helping Jefferson finish sixth in varsity competition. Volleyball: Panthers drop match at Tallulah Falls

The volley Panthers had trouble getting their serves over the net this past Thursday in a trip to Tallulah Falls and fell to 5-4 on the season. Jackson County lost in a rare best-of-five match to the host Indians 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19.
