WINDER - M.C. “Nash” Wade, 90, died Friday, October 22, 2010. Born in Alto, he was the son of the late Tillman and Savannah Youngblood Wade. WINDER - Mary W. Ridgeway, 94, died Saturday, October 23, 2010. Born in Nicholson, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Rice Wardlaw. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Ridgeway was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Henry Ridgeway. Firefighter arrested for DUI

A Dekalb County firefighter was arrested by Winder Police Oct. 10 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Jonathan Francis Cowart, 26, of 186 Cole Circle in Bethlehem, was stopped on East May Street for traveling 57 mph in a 45 mph zone. Statham Police awarded federal grants

The Statham Police Department will soon have another officer on the street. The department was recently notified that it is one of 11 Georgia law enforcement agencies slated to receive a United States Department of Justice COPS hiring grant.
