The Commerce Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has a plan for managing parking in downtown Commerce. Whether the city council will adopt the plan is another matter. Jobless rate falls (barely)

Jackson County’s unemployment rate fell a tenth of a percent during August, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. Jackson’s jobless rate was 11.0 percent, down from 11.1 in July. Woman threatens to kill son, son's wife, take kids

A Commerce man told police that his mother threatened to murder him and his wife and raise their children herself, according to an incident report. Some may believe to the contrary, but Jackson County’s recent layoffs of 17 people leaves the county pretty thin at staffing. The county has more than 500 employees, but of those, about 40 are on call, as-needed workers who don’t get regular checks. Approximately 80 are part-time, and about 270 are public safety employees.
