County employees' paychecks delayed

County employees are getting paid late this week because of the winter storm. And some apparently didn't know about the payroll snafu until today, when their scheduled paychecks didn't arrive on time. Some called the Barrow Journal to ask what's going on. Commission chairman Danny Yearwood said Wednesday that he is calling a Friday meeting of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners in order to move forward with a vote on the new emergency services chief. While icy conditions persist, all of metro Atlanta's interstate highways are now open and passable, according to a media alert issued at 5 p.m. Tuesday by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Winder's postmaster said today that mail delivery will resume Jan. 12. "We're planning on it tomorrow," said Roy Schaffer. "It's seems to be drying up."
