A sparse contingent of county voters hit the polls on a rainy Tuesday, with 83.8 percent of voters saying “Yes” to the continuation of a five-year, one-cent tax for education in Madison County. Aggravated assault warrants have been issued for three people wounded in a knife fight during a card game at a residence on Hwy. 72 East near Carlton March 5. Library expansion groundbreaking ahead

The Madison County Library expansion project is moving forward. And a construction groundbreaking is set for 11 a.m., March 17, at the library. Women arrested after fight over spanking

Two women were arrested recently after they allegedly got into a fight over the spanking of a small child. Connie Lynn Dills, 40, and Jhontae Lanee Sanders, 22, both of 241 Grady Drive, Lot 11, Hull, were each charged with one count of battery (FVA). Three local store owners plead guilty on video gambling charge

Three Madison County convenience store operators pleaded guilty to an illegal gambling charge in federal court. Those pleading guilty included Nimish Patel, owner of Comer BP in Comer; Akshat Patel, owner of Tiny Town in Carlton; Byron Sexton, owner of Country Superette in Danielsville. Woman dies from wreck injuries

A Madison County woman has died from injuries sustained in an accident on Hwy. 29 near the Georgia State Patrol Office Feb. 20. Inez Rogers, 60, died March 5 from injuries sustained in a head-on collision when a car driven by an Athens man crossed into the path of the vehicle she traveled in as a passenger.
