A man with outstanding warrants was arrested last week by Auburn Police after he fell asleep in a church parking lot. An officer on patrol near Brown’s Bridge Road spotted a vehicle parked in the back corner of a church parking lot at approximately 2:30 in the morning. A Bethlehem man was arrested Thursday on sex charges after he allegedly conversed online with someone he thought was a teen about meeting for a sexual liaison. The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is probing a Wednesday night fire that appears to have been the result of arson. A house fire in the 800 block of Kendal Park Drive was reported at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night. The resident of the house was able to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, officials said. 84 Lumber on Bankhead Hwy. in Winder is slated for closure, according to a Thursday news article. Some 10 stores across the nation are going to be shuttered, according to the article. Winder is the only location in Georgia listed. The stores were said to have "underperformed" for the past three years.

Barrow unemployment rate jumps to 10.9%

Barrow County’s unemployment rate shot up in January to 10.9 percent, the same rate as January 2010. January’s rate was a dramatic climb from December’s rate of 10 percent. According to state data, there were 3,717 people unemployed in Barrow County in January.
