The Madison County tennis teams had some unintended time off this week, after Monday’s match with Rockdale was postponed due to rain. The East Jackson Eagles opened their season on a high note, picking up a 3-2 victory over Jackson County Thursday. The Commerce Tigers closed out a successful season by winning second place in the state duals tournament in Bremen over the weekend. Commerce started its march to the finals with a 57-19 victory over Mt. Zion followed by a 37-33 victory over Gordon Lee that sent the Tigers to the final round. Jackson County (1-3, 1-1) downed Oglethorpe County 3-1 Wednesday on the road for its first win of the year and in sub-region play. The Panthers had five hits. Austin Robinson picked up the win for Jackson County, throwing seven innings.

Golf: JCCHS boys break school record

The Jackson County boys’ golf team (2-0) broke the school scoring record in only its second match of the season. The Panthers beat East Jackson 166-218 Wednesday at Double Oaks, bettering the old mark by three strokes. Thomas Whitley led Jackson County with a 39.
