Jackson unemployment falls slightly

The Jackson County unemployment rate fell slightly in February to 10.6 percent, down from 10.8 percent in January. Year-over-year, Jackson’s rate fell from 11.7 percent in February 2010 to the current 10.6 rate. Some 2,863 people in Jackson County were unemployed in February.

The Braselton Police Department has arrested a 15-year-old girl in the murder of her mother, who was an Army recruiter. First Sgt. A house on Skyline Drive in Jefferson burned early Friday morning. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The cause of the blaze isn't yet known.

A man has been released from the hospital after he was stabbed in the head Wednesday night, according to Jefferson police.
