Man arrested for DUI after BMW stuck on train tracks

An Athens man was arrested recently after his silver BMW became stuck on the train tracks on Hwy. 72 at Lem Edwards Road. Daniel D. Helmick, 38, 113 Pine Ridge Trace, Athens, was charged with DUI/alcohol and weaving over the roadway. The big stormed that blew through the county Monday night toppled part of a pine tree into the roof of Bill’s Barbecue at the Dogsboro intersection of Hwy. 29 and the Hwy. 106 Spur. Madison County grew by nine percent between 2000 and 2010. The federal government released Georgia’s Census numbers recently. Madison County’s population increased by 2,390 from 25,730 to 28,120.
