A Barrow County family barely escaped a house fire Thursday morning thanks to assistance from passers-by who stopped and rendered aide. A Winder man whose neighbors told police was driving drunk through a mobile home park while looking for his pit bull led police on a chase where he wound up caught on foot, Tasered and arrested on several charges, including a hit and run. A mortar shell found in a Winder yard Tuesday was destroyed early Wednesday morning by a bomb squad from Dobbins Air Force Base. A resident digging in his yard on Creekwood Road late Tuesday afternoon uncovered the device, described as a tube with fins.
