A mortar shell found in a Winder yard Tuesday was destroyed early Wednesday morning by a bomb squad from Dobbins Air Force Base. A resident digging in his yard on Creekwood Road late Tuesday afternoon uncovered the device, described as a tube with fins. Statham man indicted on child molestation

A Statham man faces the possibility of life in prison after he was indicted by a grand jury this month on charges he allegedly performed oral sex over a two-month period on a six-year-old. A 22-year-old Winder man was arrested by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office on May 19 and charged with allegedly making sexual contact with students he lured through Facebook. The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a public information open house meeting to discuss the proposed detour of Hwy. 191 while a DOT project reconstructs the bridge over Scull Shoal Creek in Madison County.
