Jefferson ends FY2010 in the black

The City of Jefferson finished 2010 in the black, according to the town’s recently released audit. The city’s General Fund took in $6.7 million on the year and netted $761,000, pushing the city’s reserves up to $3.5 million. Fatality in Banks County wreck

A Commerce man was killed Monday morning in a one-vehicle wreck on Hwy. 51 South. Albert Lee Likens II, 56, Commerce, was driving a 2001 Mack truck, owned by Waste Management of Homer, when he left the roadway around 7:46 a.m. and his vehicle rolled several times. There were no passengers in the truck.

Madison County fifth and eighth graders improved in their CRCT scores this year, but the system continued to struggle in eighth grade math. Woman threatens boyfriend in front of officers

A Comer woman was arrested recently after she allegedly threatened to shoot her live-in boyfriend. Deborah Ann Garrett, 34, 2430 Osley Mill Road, was charged with one count of terroristic threats and acts. Vehicle lands in embankment off roadway

A vehicle landed about 20 feet down an embankment in Braselton on Saturday, June 25, according to an incident report from the West Jackson Fire Department.
