Winder man killed in Afghanistan

A paratrooper from Winder was killed Saturday in Afghanistan while on his third deployment. According to a press release from the 82nd Airborne Division, Sgt. Keith F. Rudd, 36, of Winder, died Sept. 10 in Parvan, Afghanistan died after being found unresponsive in his room. Staff Sgt. Keith Rudd was a flight medic with Company C, 3rd Battalion, ... [Full Story »]

Child playing with matches caused Hwy. 124 fire last week

A Highway 124 house fire that left a family of 10 displaced last week was started by a child who was playing with matches. Barrow County school superintendent Wanda Creel said Wednesday a bus driver is on paid administrative leave after last week’s incident in which a five-year-old’s book bag got caught in a bus door and the child was dragged 40 feet down the street.
