The 85th annual Jackson County New Year’s Day program will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, in the auditorium of the Administrative Building in Jefferson. Rabid skunk case confirmed in Nicholson

There has been a confirmed case of rabies in a wild animal in Jackson County. A skunk tested positive for rabies after coming into contact with two pets in the Stapler Bridge Road area of Nicholson. Wrecks causing problems on I85

Two wrecks in Jackson County Monday morning have been causing problems on I 85. Northbound near the Hwy. 129 exit (137) was reportedly icy and DOT officials were spreading sand in the area causing backups. Southbound near the Hwy. 211 exit (127) a wreck was reported with an overturned vehicle.

A man was arrested Monday by the Jefferson Police Department in connection with a car jacking earlier in the day. Michael Douglas Kidd, 46, 55 Ivey Lane, Jefferson, was charged with hijacking a vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine.
