The Barrow County Board of Commissioners at its Jan. 24 meeting may vote to pay an Atlanta lobbyist up to $35,000 to keep federal environmental regulators from including the county in metro Atlanta’s ozone non-attainment area. The Statham City Council has now turned the issue of Sunday alcohol sales over to the voters. Council members approved by a 3-2 vote Tuesday night to allow a March 6 vote on sale of beer and wine on Sundays in convenience stores. Man found in Winder pond died from drowning

No foul play was involved in the death of a man whose body was found in a private pond off Holsenbeck School Road in Winder last week.
