Report of false crime yields Christmas Day arrest

An Ila woman was arrested on Christmas Day after she reported a false crime. Mary Shellie Drake, 34, 98 Hudson River Church Road, was charged with one count of false report of a crime after officer Josh Fowler was summoned to Fitzpatrick Road regarding a theft. Child reportedly drowned in Winder

Winder Police said a four-year-old girl died from complications related to drowning Wednesday night. According to Chief Dennis Dorsey, authorities responded at about 8 p.m. to a house on the 100 block of McElroy Street in reference to a child that nearly drowned. The young granddaughter of Auburn City Council member Dorissa Shackelford died Wednesday night from drowning.
