Tornado warning canceled

The National Weather Service has canceled a tornado warning that was in effect until 10:30 p.m. for western Jackson and northern Barrow County. At 10:06 p.m. Doppler radar indicated a tornado was near Hoschton and moving east at 45 miles per hour.

Man arrested after trying to cash fake check at bank

An apparently homeless man was arrested after he tried to cash a fake check at a bank, according to Braselton police. Mark Steven Daniel, 54, was charged with first degree forgery after admitting that someone offered him a place to stay and food if he cashed the check at a bank, according to an incident report. Death of former community leader reported

Charles O. Maddox Jr., 91, a former banking and community leader in Winder, died Feb. 29. The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home on Friday from 6-9 p.m. The service is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Winder. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Auburn water users could see huge jump in rates
