JEFFERSON’S Carson Newman threw a 141-2 in the discus Thursday to win the region title and secure his spot to the state sectionals. His throw bettered the field by eight feet. First Citizens Bank inside Ingles grocery store in Hull was robbed between 10:45 – 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday). The suspect is described as a clean shaven white male wearing eye glasses, in his late 40s, six feet tall and approximately 180 pounds. The Jackson Herald — a sister publication of The Braselton News — filed suit Tuesday against the Jackson County Board of Education over the board’s refusal to release the names of its finalists for the superintendent’s position. House in Hoschton heavily damaged by fire

A house in Hoschton was heavily damaged by fire on Sunday, according to Jackson County public safety director Steve Nichols. Around 6:45 p.m., a fire was reported on Creekview Drive, where firefighters found a two-story house with heavy fire showing from about 80 percent of the residence.
