Comer woman charge in death at personal care home

A 63-year-old Comer woman faces a criminal charge in the death of a resident in a personal care home on West Pine Avenue. Florence Dykes was arrested Sept. 20 and charged with one felony count of Breach of Fiduciary Obligation For Person Over Sixty-Five (OCGA 16-9-6). Leopards drop game to Spartans 22-30

The Banks County Leopards overall record drops to 1-3 for the season. Leopards are now 0-1 in region play with Buford coming to Leopard Stadium next week. BCHS stayed in the game with the Spartans til the end of the third quarter. West Hall pulled away in the fourth quarter and the Leopards defense could not stop the offensive line of the Spartans.

Murphy wins Barrow Journal football contest

Mike Murphy was a perfect 12 in the Barrow Journal’s football contest last week. Murphy was the lone contestant to correctly pick the winner of all 12 games. Two contestants correctly picked 11 winners, including Sandra Ledbetter and Rory Sheats. Correctly forecasting 10 winners were Tim Husk, John Sheats, Reed Sheats, Luke Sheats and Levi ... There will be no pay raise for the mayor and council members in Statham — at least not yet. The agenda item concerning salary for the council was tabled during Tuesday’s meeting. The 64th Annual Madison County Agricultural Fair is set for next week at the Comer Lions Club fairgrounds in Comer. The fair begins Tuesday, Sept. 25 and runs through Saturday, Sept. 29.
