The Banks County High School Leopards basketball teams started team practices last week and will host a scrimmage game on November 15 at the Leopard Gym. Voters in Commerce decided Tuesday that they should be able to have a glass of wine at a restaurant on Sunday or pick up a six-pack of beer at the grocery or convenience store on the sabbath. Sunday alcohol sales will not be allowed in Banks County after the issue failed in Tuesday’s election. When the votes were tallied Tuesday night, it was reported that 3,206 Banks Countians voted against Sunday alcohol sales, while 2,909 county residents voted yes. A 72-percent voter turnout in Barrow County helped Republicans in three contested local races win re-election Tuesday. Jon Hendrix defeated Jerry Riley 52-21 Tuesday for a seat on the Danielsville City Council. Michael Wideman, who ran uncontested for a council seat, received 48 votes.

With four of 16 precincts reporting, Sheriff Jud Smith's lead over his Democratic challenger has grown. As of 8:35 p.m., Smith had 1,877 votes to challenger James Scott's 434 votes. Sen.
