Stueck retires from EJCHS

East Jackson Comprehensive High School will be getting a new principal soon. Principal Pat Stueck retired this week and the Jackson County Board of Education approved the move Monday night. In a historic vote Tuesday night, the Barrow County Board of Commissioners unanimously agreed to hire former Gwinnett County administrator Jock A. Connell as the first county manager. Barrow 11th Graders improve on writing test

Barrow County’s 11th graders made some gains on this fall’s Georgia High School Writing Test. On the test administered in October, the local school system had a pass rate of 95.5 percent. A year ago the passage rate was 93.1 percent. For the full story, see the Dec. 12 issue of the Barrow Journal.

The Auburn City Council voted to eliminate its fledgling bus system during a special called meeting Monday, putting an end to the controversial Auburn Neighborhood Transit after six months of service. Three people were arrested recently following a traffic stop on Hwy. 72 at Sorrow Patterson Road for a non-working headlight.
