One person was injured early Thursday morning in a mobile home fire in Lula.
A 25-year-old man was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ambulance after being burned at a doublewide mobile home fire on West County Line Road, Banks County.
Hall County firefighters received the call shortly before 5 a.m. and upon arrival determined the mobile home was located in Banks County. The Banks County Fire Department was also notified and responded to the scene.
Banks County Interim Fire Chief Brian Eubanks said three people were at the home at the time of the fire.
“The 25-year-old had first and second degree burns to his arms,” said Eubanks. “Hall County transported him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.”
The victim’s name has not been released.
It appeared the doublewide mobile home was located in what formerly had operated as a vehicle junkyard.
“Upon arrival, it was 80 to 100 percent involved,” said Eubanks. “Between us and Hall County we were able to knock the fire down.”
Eubanks said, “The homeowner does not live here. He has moved out of state. Its been vacant – from what we can understand from locals – two to three months. There was no power, water – all utilities had been shut off to the residence. The fire is still under investigation by Banks County Fire and EMS.”
Eubanks said the property owner, Johnny Jones, lives in Florida and did not have insurance on the structure. “When contacted by phone this morning he (Jones) said he had dropped the insurance,” Eubanks said.
The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined and it has been classified as an uninsured loss, Eubanks said.
West County Line Road was shut down for several hours because of fire hoses, supplying water from a hydrant, stretching across the roadway. Fire personnel were on the scene for approximately four hours.
Eubanks said Banks County had one medical unit and three engines on the scene of the fire.
