It appears the burglars who vandalized the Chevron gas station at Ga. Hwy. 316 at Kilcrease Road in Auburn last week did so to drink beer.
A store employee told responding deputies that she arrived at the business just before 8 a.m. on Sunday to find the front door had been broken. No one was supposed to have been at the business since it closed the night before, she said. But all deputies found except the damage to the door were packages of beer dropped in the middle of the store and loose beer bottles lying around it, the incident report states.
There were marks on the door leading to the register but the glass of the door was not broken and did not notice any damage to the locking mechanism. Sarah stated the door leading behind the counter to the registers is suppose to be secure and locked every night at the close of business.
Once I ensured the business was secure and no one was still inside I secured the crime scene and started a crime scene log. Once I exited the business no one entered until the on call investigator arrived on scene. While inside, clearing the business Central Communications advised that a motion alarm was going off at the business. Central Communications advised they got no report of an alarm from the business at anytime before we arrived on scene.
The store’s night manager told police he closed and left the business at approximately 11 p.m. Jan. 28 before when he activated the alarm system and he didn’t notice any suspicious activity. The cost to repair the broken door was estimated at $500 and about $58 of beer was taken from the store.
