Plans for fundraising and business recruitment for downtown Jefferson were both topics of discussion at the monthly meeting of the Jefferson Downtown Development Authority last month. At the Jan. 24 meeting, Jefferson Mainstreet Manager Beth Laughinghouse reported a total of $3,500 in the façade grant funding account, with $1,000 of this already approved for a downtown business.
“We need a fundraiser,” Laughinghouse said. We need to keep funding this, she added.
Mayor Jim Joiner recommended a wine and cheese event at the Crawford Long Museum.
The group also discussed including live and silent auctions in the event.
Laughinghouse said she would get with the museum director and report back at the February DDA meeting with some possible dates.
The authority also discussed possibly holding a 5K Run in conjunction with the annual Freedom Festival. Laughinghouse said she would get some additional information on this, also.
