A civil dispute between a homeowner and those living rent-free at the residence lead to the involvement of deputies, according to an incident report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
A Jefferson man told deputies that he allowed several people to live in a house that he owns on Whirlaway Street, Jefferson, without a contract and no rent.
The Jefferson man had several stipulations for the residents and if they violated them, he wanted them out of the residence. The man told a deputy that the residents allowed too many visitors.
The belongings of the residents had been moved to the garage of the house until they could get a vehicle to move the items. The man had called a locksmith to change the locks on the residence.
The deputies responding to the house had to talk to a judge about a prior incident at the residence regarding “sovereign citizens,” according to an incident report.
The deputies ensured that the residents removed their items without any issues. The deputies said everything was done civilly and socially.
The owner and the primary resident made arrangements for the residents to retrieve the items at a later time.
