It's almost over. The 2008 Primary Election runoffs will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, and will determine who will be Jackson County's new chairman of the board of commissioners and who will become District Attorney. Both races are on the Republican ballot.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. across Jackson County.
Last week, some 827 people early voted in Jackson County while only 94 early voted in Banks County.
In a hotly-contested, sometimes bitter DA race, Donna Sikes faces Brad Smith. The winner will replace Rick Bridgeman, who didn't make the runoff. Bridgeman was appointed last year to replace Tim Madison, who resigned and was later convicted of thref.
In the BOC chairman’s contest, Hunter Bicknell will face Ron Johnson in a race that has at times been testy. Both Bicknell and Johnson live in the West Jackson area. The winner will replace Pat Bell, who did not seek another term in office.
For those who voted in the Democratic primary, there will be a runoff to determine the U.S. Senate nominee between Vernon Jones and Jim Martin. The winner in that race will face Republican Saxby Chambliss and Libertarian Allen Buckley in November.
Those who voted a Republican ballot in the primary election must vote Republican in the runoff.
Those who voted a Democrat ballot in the primary election must cast a Democrat ballot in the runoff. Those who did not vote in the primary election may choose either ballot in the primary.
