Reckless conduct reported after small child found on roadside

Reckless conduct was reported near Neese Mobile Home Park on Willis Glenn Road recently after a small child was found on the side of the road by a passerby.

Officer Joshua Smith went to the scene and talked with the child, who pointed to the nearby mobile home park when asked where she lives. A man cutting grass in the park told Smith which home was hers. Smith found the child’s aunt and father in the mobile home in separate rooms, asleep, along with several other children of various ages. Both stated they were unaware that the child had left the residence. The man was asked to stop frightening the child when he told the child that she had gotten daddy in trouble. DFCS was informed of the incident for follow up.

Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office recently included:

•Aggravated stalking was reported at the Huddle House in Danielsville last week after a woman said her husband, who she has a TPO against through Jackson County, has been calling her numerous times, though she has told him to leave her alone. She stated he has even threatened a co-worker. As officer Alan Stratton was interviewing the woman, her husband called her. Stratton instructed her to put the call on speaker phone and Stratton heard the man, who the woman identified as her husband, say he was en route to the Huddle House to “raise hell.” Stratton left a message on the husband’s phone instructing him to return his call and to not come to Madison County. He instructed the woman to call 9-1-1 if he did show up.

•Burglary was reported on Sanders Road last week after a man who rents a home there said someone entered the house while and his two roommates were gone by throwing a brick through a glass door. A number of items were reported stolen.


•A man on Childers Road came to the sheriff’s office last week to report that his ex-girlfriend has been stalking him. He said she had had a TPO served against him and that he has been trying to honor it, but that she has followed him and called him, cursing at him each time.

•Burglary was reported on Mae Drive last week after a woman said someone kicked in her front door. The woman said she had been gone two days and that when she came home, she noticed her wood-burning stove had been moved to her front porch. She said she has a suspect in mind.

•A woman in Diamond Hill MH Park said her husband stole her medication out of her purse because he is on drugs and “running from the law.” She said he is not living at the residence at this time.

•A woman on Lem Edwards Road came to the sheriff’s office to report several suspicious phone calls and activities that she believes involve her estranged husband, and that he is stalking her.

•Criminal trespass was reported on Drake Woods Road after someone allegedly stole gas out of the Anchor Church van.

•Obstruction was reported on Cleghorne Road last week after officer Lewis Fisher was summoned to a residence in reference to a disorderly person. Once there, he found a 15-year old male who came downstairs with a claw hammer in an aggressive manner. A woman at the scene took the hammer from the boy and tried to calm him down, but the boy kept cursing at the officer telling him to get out of his house. He was finally persuaded to get on the floor and he told the officer that he was going to kill himself or “do something to make us kill him.” His grandfather and the woman tried to persuade him to calm down and take his medication. He was eventually subdued and taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.

•Criminal trespass was reported at a camp on Harry Paul’s Road last week after a man said he and his wife got into an argument because she allegedly poured Mountain Dew and sugar into his Harley Davidson. The woman said she and her husband had been arguing a lot for several months and that she thought he was having an affair so she poured sugar into his motorcycle’s gas tank. She said her husband then “smacked her” on her cheek and left. She said she did not want to press charges, but for her husband to just leave for the night so she could have some quiet time.

•A woman on Drake Woods Road reported that she found feces in her mailbox and that someone had also smeared mustard on a vehicle. She said she suspects a woman that her girlfriend, who also lives at the residence, had recently fired.

•A man and his son said they were riding their bikes on Colbert-Danielsville Road when a school bus came up behind them, blew its horn and then passed them less than three feet away on a double yellow line. They provided the number of the bus, which they said was traveling toward Danielsville.

•A man on Rogers Church Road said a former tenant has been sending him threatening text messages since he asked him to move out.
