GIB: results of Ash autopsy 'undetermined'

The autopsy of the body of the late Dr. Keith Ash apparently yielded insufficient information to pinpoint his cause of death.

The State Crime Lab termed the results of the investigation as “undetermined,” according to police chief John Gaissert.

Ash died Wednesday, June 27, in a chair where he’d been sleeping. The incident report indicated there were “a few” beer bottles next to the victim on the floor and some prescription medications nearby. Ash was reportedly suffering from a number of medical issues.

Gaissert said at the time there was nothing to indicate either foul play or suicide.

"The scene was handled as a crime scene because of the unattended nature of the death," explained Gaissert at the time.

Ash, a former surgeon at what was then BJC Medical Center, operated Urgent Care at Banks Crossing.

Gaissert had warned that it could be weeks before the results of a toxicology test were known. The GBI announced its findings Friday.

“I was notified officially that the autopsy result is undetermined.” Gaissert said.
