ALTO – Beatrice Norton Simmons, 87, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012.
She was born on September 6, 1925, in Banks County. She was the daughter of the late Noah and Daisy Simmons Norton. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Simmons; sons, Glenn Simmons, Jr. and Dwayne Simmons; step-mother, Belle Savage Norton; brothers, Rass Norton and Nathan Norton; stepbrother, R.C. Savage; sister, Christine Chitwood; and stepsister, Susie Savage. She was a retired employee of Mt. Vernon Mills with 35 years of service and was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing. She was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church and the Banks County Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a granddaughter who was reared in the home, Lawanda Giles, Toccoa; sons and daughters-in-law, Terrell and Shirley Simmons and Nero and Denise Simmons, of Baldwin, and Steve and Stephanie Simmons, Commerce; son, Harold Simmons, Homer; daughter-in-law, Margaret Simmons, Baldwin; sisters, Nolia Simpson, Ellijay, and Geneva Nix, Athens; brothers, John A. Norton, Baldwin, and Seaborn Norton, Athens; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Elder David Bryson, the Rev. Ricky Brown, and Mr. Chris Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
