Harold Benton Sr. (11-16-12)

ATHENS - Harold Lewis Benton, Sr., 81, died Friday, November 16, 2012.

A native of Gainesville, he was the son of the late William Lewis and Marietta Azbell Benton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Jordan Benton; son, William Lee "Bill" Benton; and sister, Billie Crowden. Mr. Benton retired from Athens Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 27 years and also worked for Newton Manufacturing for over 26 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp with service during the Korean War.

Survivors include two children, Harold L. "Buddy" Benton, Jr., Lawrenceville, and David J. Benton, Jefferson; four grandchildren, Jesse D. Benton, Samuel D. Benton, Emma G. Benton and Christopher W. Benton.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 19, at Christian Life Worship Center with the Revs. John Ingham and Brian Williams officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jesse Benton, Samuel Benton, Christopher Benton, Mark Walters, Mack Cates, David Benton and Harold L. "Buddy" Benton, Jr.

Memorials may be made to Christian Life Fellowship Church or Gideon's International.
