COMMERCE - Leslie Starks McGuire 73, formerly of Buford, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
He was the son of the late Charles Thomas and Sarah Hardy McGuire; and was preceded in death by brothers, Cpl. Oliver McGuire, Spud Murphy McGuire, and Douglas McGuire, all from Buford.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Norma Jones McGuire; a daughter, Sheila McGuire Bolton, Commerce; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and David McCright, Homer; grandchildren, Clancy Bolton, Abner McCright and Brooke Bolton; brother, Ronald McGuire, Buford; and sister-in-law, Sharon McGuire, Buford; sister and brothers-in-law, Glenda and Grady Peavy, Buford, Ann Millwood, Braselton, Shirley Akins, Winder, Harry and Delores Jones, Gaffney, S.C.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. McGuire graduated from the Sugar Hill High School Class of 1958. The class of 1958 was the last graduating class of Sugar Hill High School and still meets once a month at Puckett's Restaurant in Buford, for breakfast.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a strong Christian who loved Jesus with all his heart. He was born on January 30, 1939, in Cartersville. He served in the United States Navy reserves for four years and served two years active duty aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier.
He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Buford, where he was a Deacon Emeritus, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on various committees and was retired from Hill Cabinet Company, where he worked for 40 years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21, at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. The Revs. Rodney Peavy, Joel Shadburn and Danny Newbern will officiate. Interment will take place at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 20, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
