Guy Edwin Brooks, 87, went home to be with his Lord on the morning of January 6, 2013.
He was born in Madison County on September 14, 1925, the son of the late Clarence Otto and Della Davis Brooks. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Chandler Brooks; and a sister, Evelyn Brooks Daniel.
He retired in 1990 from a long career of leadership and innovation in the tread rubber and tire industry. He was a member of Moon's Grove Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran who served during World War II.
Survivors include children, Ann (John) Cass and Don (Jan) Brooks; a sister, Mildred Brooks Strickland; grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Ward, Michael (Allison) Cass, Luke (Tanja) Brooks, Misty (Bryan) Hammond, Sandi (Brad) Moon, Justin (Amber) Brooks, and Brodye Brooks; great-grandchildren, Matthew Ward, Hannah Kate and Brooks Cass, Taylor and Eric Hammond, Matti and Lainey Moon, Draygon, Alex, Mallory, and Ivy Brooks; several brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lord and Stephens, Danielsville. Pastors Tom Dial and Mike Spence will officiate. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andy Gurley, Wesley Chandler, Terry Chandler, Rodney Chandler, Ronnie McCannon, and Josh Chandler. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of St. Mary's Highland Hills Village and the St. Mary's Hospice Team.
