Thelma Carlan (1-21-13)

COMMERCE - Thelma M. Westmoreland Carlan, 83, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Hill Haven Nursing Home.

Born in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late A.G. and Ora Sue Freeman Westmoreland. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carlan; a son, Clay Carlan; and siblings, Hoyt, C.W., Pete, Bobby, Buddy, Troy, Vivian, Audrey, Mildred and Jessie Lou.

Survivors include sons, Mike Carlan, Gastonia, N.C., Dennis Carlan and Jason Carlan, both of Commerce, and Nelson (Faye) Goolsby, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, Ben (Caroline) Westmoreland, Alabama; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 24, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. James Dumas officiating. Interment will follow in the Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 23, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in her name be sent to Hill Haven Nursing Home.
