Elizabeth Colson (1-28-13)

HULL - Elizabeth Newsome Colson, 87, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013.

A native of Wrightsville, she was the daughter of the late Henry Murphy and Annie Lee Claxton Newsome. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Mason; son-in-law, Jim Mason; and sister, Helen McComb. She graduated from Berry School for Girls in Rome and Emory Nursing School in Atlanta. Mrs. Colson retired from the Navy Supply School Dispensary in 1985 after serving for 30 years as the nurse. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2872, as well as past president of the State and District Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Colson was also a member of the DAV Auxiliary and the AMVETS Auxiliary and served on the Veteran's Council. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Blair Hancock and husband, Billy, Hull; son, Carl Colson and wife, Debbie, Cameron, Ariz.; grandchildren, John Colson, Carla Colson, Heather Jenkins, Melissa Self and husband, Brett, and Rebekah Hancock; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev Hugh Hendrickson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, at the funeral home.

VFW Post 2872 will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the ladies Auxiliary VFW State of Georgia.
