Longtime Winder city councilman Charlie Eberhart died early Wednesday after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Mr. Eberhart was the owner of Eberhart & Son Mortuary, which has operated in the city for more than 50 years. He also held the Ward 2 seat on the Winder City Council for 22 years, making him its second longest-serving member at the time of his death.
Winder Mayor David Maynard said Mr. Eberhart served well his constituents.
“He was one of those people who never met a stranger and made other people feel comfortable,” Maynard said. “He would make you feel at ease and was really easy to talk to. I think he represented his district very, very well. He had a tremendous amount of support in his district.”
Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at White Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Winder First Baptist Church on Highway 11.
