GAINESVILLE - Herbert Allen Hudgins, 95, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013.
He was born in Gainesville, the son of the late Joseph Bart and Harriett Ann Mangum Hudgins. Mr. Hudgins was a member of the Belmont Baptist Church, where he was the oldest member and Deacon Emeritus. He was a graduate of the Martin Institute of Jefferson and was employed by Georgia Power Company for 45 years. Mr. Hudgins was preceded in death by his wife, Willene Kinney Hudgins.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Doug Williams, Pendergrass; sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Diane Hudgins, Athens, James and Ann Hudgins, Marietta, and John and Beth Hudgins, Gainesville, eight grandchildren, Teresa (Jeff) Sandrock, Barry (Neva) Latty, Bart (Ashley) Latty, Katherine (Collin) Field, Jason Hudgins, Jillian Hudgins, Sara Hudgins, and Hannah Hudgins; three step-grandchildren, Ric, Daren and Cory Williams; six great-grandchildren, Cade, Cole, Callie, Brayden, Morgan and Thomas; ad three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 3, at 2 p.m. in the Belmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Compton officiating. The body will lie in state in the Church from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, prior to the service. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with Barry Latty, Bart Latty, Jeff Sandrock, Cole Sandrock, Collin Field, Jason Hudgins, Cade Sandrock and Brayden Latty honored as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
