ATHENS - Lois Dean Fortson, 94, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Weldon and Mettie Long Dean. Mrs. Fortson was preceded in death by her husband, James Ellis Fortson. She was a retired supervisor with S.H. Kress & Co., a member of the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, and attended the Young Harris United Methodist Church. She was beloved by her family and friends and known throughout her life for her kind and gentle spirit.
Survivors include a brother, T.W. Dean and wife, Mary Jane, Newborn; sisters, Quida Bridges, Commerce, and Carole Wilson, Athens; eight nieces and nephews; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 7, at the funeral home.
