BOC approves election board proposal

Madison County commissioners will ask state legislators to OK the creation of a county election board.

On Jan. 28, they approved some amendments to their proposal and agreed to submit the resolution to the General Assembly.

The latest version of the resolution, which faced multiple changes over the past couple of months, establishes a three-person election board, with the full-time chairman of that board recommended by a Madison County Grand Jury to the senior judge of the Northern Judicial Circuit Superior Court for final approval.

The other two election board members will be recommended by local political parties, with both the Republicans and Democrats making a nomination to the county commissioners for approval.

County commissioners approved those changes with a 5-0 vote Jan. 28.
