The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has made arrests in the case involving damage to the county recreational facilities at the East Jackson Parks and Recreation Complex on Lakeview Drive in Nicholson.
Montell Lanard Lumpkin, 17, Quitravious Markell Davenport, 18, and a juvenile have been charged with Interference with Government Property. Additional charges are pending.
A report was filed with the sheriff’s office in January regarding damage to the restrooms and concession buildings at the parks complex. The damage was valued at over $3,500. The investigation continued into the incident and a later incident report provided Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigators with information that led to the arrest of the three suspects.
“The arrested juvenile was a self professed ‘gang member’ who has raised the attention of investigators related to these and other possible crimes,” Sheriff Janis Mangum said.
The sheriff has directed the investigators to request restitution from those responsible during the criminal process and will personally request that the court and prosecutors agree to the complete restitution for the damages on behalf of the taxpayers of Jackson County.
Sheriff Mangum stated “This crime is a prime example of additional costs being passed along to law abiding, hard working citizens who will not quietly stand by and allow this crime to go unpunished and see their hard earned dollars being wasted.”
Citizens are encouraged to notify their local law enforcement agencies of any suspicious persons, crimes or other relevant information by calling 911 or the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 706-367-8718.
